Winter is long behind us, and summer is just a month away, bringing more opportunities to get out and explore—whether it's trekking through the beautiful Allegheny Forest or embarking on a long road trip to see friends and family. So, if you haven't already, now is a great time to get your Subaru ready for the new season. Here's a quick look at some recommended services before heading out on your next adventure.
- Change the Oil: The most common service item is also the most essential to ensuring your Subaru's optimum performance, efficiency, and reliability. Hotter temps are harder on the engine. So give your Outback or Forester a fresh start with an oil and filter change.
- Change Air Filters: Dust and pollen can clog up your cabin air filter, resulting in reduced cooling effectiveness, unpleasant odors, and an overworked blower motor. Now is a good time to change it out, especially if you'll be driving on dirt roads or trails.
- Change Wiper Blades: Heat can cause stiffened and cracked wiper blades, limiting their effectiveness. Good wipers are an important safety component when driving during a downpour. So, if your wiper blades are looking worn out, swap them out to ensure maximum water clearance.
- Test the Battery: As with engine oil, your car's battery can be significantly affected by heat. High temperatures can potentially cause vital liquids in your battery to evaporate, lessening its charge. Fortunately, quality batteries are pretty durable, with lifespans up to five years or more. However, it's recommended to have it tested once or twice a year after the three-year mark.
- Check your A/C: When it's hot outside, the inside of your car can feel like an oven, making adequate air conditioning essential to enjoying summertime drives. A properly functioning A/C system needs to measure at least 45 degrees or lower at the vent outlets to have an effect on a 90-degree day. If you notice your Subaru isn't getting as cool as you'd like, bring it in for service by one of our Subaru-certified technicians.
