The Forester is the most popular vehicle Subaru makes and it's all-new for 2025. This two-row five-passenger SUV is entering its sixth generation with more room for passengers and a quieter ride than the 2024 model. Every Subaru Forester operates with a flat-four-cylinder engine, all-wheel drive and a continuously variable automatic transmission. The new Forester also gives you extra ground clearance to handle moderate off-road adventures. A comparison of performance

The 2025 and 2024 Subaru Forester crossovers are virtually identical under the hood. Both operate with a four-cylinder 2.5-liter Boxer engine. The 2024 power plant generates 182 horsepower and for 2025 it's almost the same at 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque. In spite of the slight drop in horsepower, the 2025 Subaru Forester delivers better performance thanks to a 10% stiffer chassis for better handling and an upgraded steering system. Meanwhile, most 2024 and 2025 Forester trims offer paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

A comparison of exterior highlights

For both 2024 and 2025, the Subaru Forester comes with sleek sides and a tall profile. The 2024 Forester has an angled grille and flared bumper fascia that project an hourglass shape. The 2025 Forester has an updated grille with a bolder look that flows into a pair of LED headlamps. The 2025 grille is larger and the bumper is flat and thin. Headlights are also larger for 2025 and have a wedge-style design halong with a thick band of LED lights across the top. The sides of the 2025 model add new definition around the fenders and the side windows have a modernized new shape. Raised roof rails let Oil City and Clarion, PA owners bring equipment like bikes, kayaks and skis for your outdoor adventures.

A comparison of technology

The interior of the new Subaru Forester has a fresh, contemporary look for 2025. It comes with a standard two-zone climate control system as well as a hands-free liftgate. 2024 Subaru Forester models have a standard 6.5-inch touch screen display and a larger 8.0-inch screen was an available upgrade. The 2025 version of the Subaru Forester gives you a big 11.6-inch infotainment touch screen that comes standard on all but the base. Meanwhile, the base level gets a slightly larger display that comes in at 7.0 inches (vs. 6.5 inches last year) and the system includes both Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ at every level.

A comparison of other interior features

Higher trim levels in the 2025 Forester have a dual screen layout and for both model years the Forester has heated seats in both the first and second rows. Available upgrades include an integrated navigation system, a panoramic moonroof, push-button start, evasive steering assist and a premium Harman Kardon sound system. The Subaru Starlink® Multimedia system gives you intuitive control of your entertainment, navigation and apps. The available hands-free power liftgate opens up a cargo area with 74.2 cubic feet of space.

A comparison of safety features

Both 2024 and 2025 Subaru Forester models come standard with Subaru's exclusive EyeSight® collection of camera-based safety features. The EyeSight system maximizes cruise control, monitors traffic movement and sends you an alert if you're moving outside your lane. For both model years, Subaru safety features include standard automated emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
